The Winterville Center

Community and Culture in Winterville, Georgia

The Winterville Center for Community and Culture is located on 371 N. Church St in Winterville, Georgia near Athens Rd. We are just 10 minutes from UGA and the Athens downtown. We are open 9-5 Monday through Thursday.

The Winterville Center is housed in the old Winterville High School which sat vacant for sixty years. The last graduating class walked through its doors in 1956. As the ravages of time took a toll on the once proud building, the roof began to leak, windows were broken, and the bathroom walls had fallen in. Mold and mildew covered the walls and no one seemed to care. What a difference in 2016. Through the combined efforts of Winterville citizens and city leaders, a rebirth has taken place. The building is proud once again.

So what is the Winterville Center? We are a regional enrichment center serving adults of all ages. Adults participate in both day & evening activities and classes. The Center Lecture Series features experts in the cultural, arts and academic disciplines. The 100-foot Hallway Art Exhibit showcases local artists and is rotated every three months.  Visit our unique honor system Coffee House on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. until Noon. The first Thursday of every month we have a First Thursday Potluck Luncheon & Program with special guest speakers, entertainment or a demonstration.  Pick up a schedule of classes while you are here.  There are so many reasons to stop by and visit us!

We are a YELLOW DOT Facility!

We are a Yellow Dot facility

The Yellow Dot program is designed to help first responders provide appropriate life-saving treatment during the first hour after a medical emergency.

A yellow, peach-shaped decal placed in the driver side rear window of a vehicle will alert first responders that vital medical information is stored in the glove compartment. The decal can also provide life-saving information to emergency personnel responding to in-home emergencies.

Georgia’s Yellow Dot Program is free and available to anyone. The medical information form in the Yellow Dot packet includes the participant’s name, photo, medical conditions, recent surgeries, current medications, allergies, emergency contact information and more. Local emergency personnel, Athens Regional Health System, and St. Mary’s Health Care System have been trained to recognize the Yellow Dot information and use it to provide life-saving treatment.

The program is the result of a partnership between the Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Aging Services, the Georgia Department of Public Health, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and Alliant Georgia Medical Care Foundation.

Come to the Winterville Center for Community and Culture for your Yellow Dot packets.

Wednesdays, Pittard Park (where the overflow parking is behind the city garage)

Pétanque is the French version of the Italian “bocce”. However, it is now played in many countries in the world and has been introduced at the Olympics.
Instead of talking, let yourself enjoy the game and come with us at Pittard Park. We are presently playing every Wednesday afternoon and everyone is welcome to join us.
The game is played with 2/3 balls depending on the numbers of players per team (1 to 3). Each one is trying to be the closest to a small wooden ball. The first person reaching 13 points is the winner!
